EDWARD HARRIS AT LARGE!

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE WORLD’S UNCERTAINTIES AND WIN BIG!!!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had an enjoyable Festive Season and has resolved to take on the challenges that will confront each of us in this New Year. On returning to work on the first working day of 2008, we are greeted with the news that Oil price has reached US$100.00 per barrel.

The uncertainties in business have contributed to the situation that is currently fueling the rise in oil prices. Many will say the news is not good but coming at the start of the year with the attack on democracy in Kenya and Pakistan, there are lessons to be learnt and money to be made. Apart from Guyana where for as long as parliamentary elections were introduced there continue to be cries of fraudulent elections, the rest of the region has so far carried out the wishes of the people. Maybe, it is time for Guyanese to seek to change their electoral system and return to First Past The Post or even a combination of First Past the Post and Proportional Representation may be the most democratic system in dealing with elections. Let the debate begin as the people of the world demand that those who seek to represent them be treated fairly and with respect. To rob citizens of a democratic choice as to who will lead them is nothing short of TREASON.

Group of Nations Assemblies such as the UN, OAS must be able to intervene when such atrocities are practiced. Many times it is the people without the aiding and abetting of politicians, destroy cities and kill those who side with their oppressors. Iraq has been in the back burner this week and the battle against terrorists is now shifted back to Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Americans have President George W. Bush to thank for his taking them to fight a war in Iraq that should have never been.

As Americans head for the polls in 2008, the picture is interesting and as I take note of the developments, I am ready to stay with my prediction that Sen. Hillary Clinton will gain the Democratic Nomination while Tom Mc Cain is going to be the headache for the rest of the Republican candidates. It is too early to call the Candidate who is likely to win the Republican Nomination. While all early indications seem to suggest that the Democrats will win the 2008 Elections, I am not seeing clearly that Obama will be the Vice President. Tonight’s Caucus will give an early indication as to where Sen. Clinton is leaning whether it’s John Edwards or Barack Obama?

Politics and Investments/Business are related and politicians must come to the realization that the words free from fear and free and fair must be solemn commitment when it comes to the electoral process. Transparency and accountability must be the mantra for those who gain office. Referendum must be used as a means for testing decisions that directly affect the people.

This is my selected quote for the week:
YOU MAKE YOUR OWN OPPORTUNITIES
Your destiny isn’t a matter of chance, it’s a matter of the choices
you’ll make in the coming year.
Success isn’t something you wait for, it’s something you must pursue
in the months ahead.
Don’t wait for extraordinary opportunities to be successful.
Seize common occasions and turn them into great ones.
Opportunities sometimes come disguised in the form of misfortune,
or temporary defeat.
Start where you are.
You’re at this moment, standing right in the middle of opportunity.
If you act on your dreams you can live them in the New Year.
You have a lot to look forward to. Happy New Year!

The uncertainties and anxieties of life at this juncture are nothing short of living on a time bomb. However, those who panic lose. The race is not for the swift but he that endures. There is no quick fix to what is going on in today’s world. Those who will continue to do business as usual in unusual circumstances are those who do not understand that in times of crisis, the greatest opportunities become available to those who are prepared to take risks and know when and where to strike.

The currency market gave big yields to those who were watching the trends and not scared to jump in and take their piece of the pie. I wonder how many of our Entrepreneurs were savvy enough to have made some money in currency trading. How many of our children are studying courses that will permit them to understand the stock market so that they can begin to share information that can give Caribbean people an edge? Gains as much as 136% were made in 2007. I always tune in on the programme Bulls and Bears on Fox News. This year I promise to take a closer look at the stock market. What is interesting is that information is all around us. I hope that one of the Private Sector Associations will promote a series of lectures on Investing in the Stock Market. I believe that you don’t have to have the financial capacity to learn to play the game. Gain the experience and be ready when you arrive at the place to be a part of the game. Buy stocks when they are falling so that you can apply the principle of “Buy Low, Sell High” You must know when to quit. Don’t get greedy.

Another good area of investment is Real Estate and don’t tell me about what is happening in the USA, the game is not played in the same manner in St. Lucia. You must begin to look seriously at this area of investment. The Realtors Association will be holding a 3 Day Beginner’s Course from January 14 -16, 2008, 5.00 – 9.00pm at the Bay Gardens Hotel. This is a timely programme and will be useful information that everyone can use. I am heading for my piece of Real Estate in Cyberspace.

I will like to see a number of Motivational Speakers visiting St. Lucia this year to share some life skills with St. Lucians. We need to change our Mind Set and don’t just see things as they are but as they can be. Let us begin to see possibilities.

Here’s wishing my readers the very best in the New Year and may all your desires be realized. Make 2008 your best year ever! Happy New Year!!!

Keep the Faith, God is in Charge, Dream Big and Expect Miracles all the time!!!
