EDWARD HARRIS AT LARGE!

INTEGRITY NEEDS TO BE APPLIED TO EVERYTHING WE DO!

Happy 29th Independence Anniversary! May Prosperity attend our Nation! We are not in the best of times but surely we are not in the worst of times. There are always comparisons to be made and we are ahead of many nations in the maintenance of peace and orderliness in our region and around the world. We have lots to be thankful for. In spite of recent developments regarding the price of oil, St. Lucians have already begun to adjust and life goes on. It was like the passing of a hurricane. Many of us were punched to the ground but are back on our feet. There will always be a way to cope with a bit of sacrifice.

I hasten to point out my disgust at the situation in Guyana and I feel that the time has come for our regional Leaders to speak up. You will note that I mention Leaders and by that I mean politicians and all others in leadership positions. Civil Society Associations must begin to let their voices be heard. It is definitely not business as usual in Guyana and President Jagdeo must know that. When lawlessness is encouraged to spread to proportions where the country is unmanageable, something has to be done. It all began with the rigging of election after election with no check in sight. Fraudulent election is a State Crime against the people and this is being condoned by many under the guise of race on both sides. All those who perpetuated such behaviour, were silently digging their own graves.

I call on the members of the Guyana St. Lucia Association to that is possible to draw attention to the atrocities taking place in Guyana. Change has got to be made to bring about an end to lawlessness in Guyana. Integrity on the part of those in political office must be more than a word. The military forces seem to be powerless. Businesses are hurting. Patrons of night clubs and other places of entertainment are staying away. In some parts of the country, residents are asked to stay indoors. Guyana will lose its Visitors to other countries as is already happening with conference venues being shifted to other States in the Region. When will this end?

As the neighbours in the Caribbean watch at the situation that is unfolding in Guyana, they should be concerned and do everything to ensure that parliamentary democracy thrives in the region and the rule of law is maintained without compromise. We have witnessed the change of Governments in many States in the region and there are others to follow but this will never be the case in Guyana as long as the system remains as it is. It is necessary to get to the cause of the dilemma Guyana faces. A constitutional solution must be found and a properly elected Government must be put in office. There must be moral authority to govern effectively. I feel it is time for Guyanese to stop being different and move away from Proportional Representation to First Past the Post.

Have you been watching the Democrats Race to the White House? Senator Obama surge is nothing short of a Miracle! This is one time the experience challenges of the old and the not so old have been rudely awakened by a serious Call for Change. The people are tired by the same old faces in Government. Washington is broken and the same old folks cannot be expected to fix it. Ten wins in a row. What do you call such a performance? The race card is out of the game. Americans can be proud of themselves and what makes me proud is that for the first time Blacks are solidly united behind their man. Whatever happens Obama will be in the in the race for the White House. If he continues his winning ways in the next round and take Texas, he will be unstoppable.

It is time for Change and I believe a Change is going to come even for Guyana.

Here is my Motivational Choice of the week:
SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE MAKE DECISIONS
To control the outcome of anything,
you control the action at the point of decision making.
If you let others make decisions for you, you give up control.
When you control the decisions, you control the actions.
It’s your life. You decide what you’re going to do with it.
If you don’t run your own life, someone else will.
You’re in control of your life to the degree that you make decisions.
Take charge of your life, so there is no longer a need to ask
permission of others.
When you ask permission, you are giving someone veto power
over your life.
Take control and start making those decisions.
Only you are responsible for your life.
