LIVING LIFE – ST. LUCIAN STYLE – NEVER A DULL MOMENT!
The curtains came down on St. Lucia Jazz 2008 last Sunday and Carnival is now ahead of us. I continue to state that there is never a dull moment in St. Lucia. During the Jazz season, politics fought for centre stage but the people decided not to bother too much about politics and embrace the sweet sound of Jazz and other genre of music.
Thousands of visitors joined St. Lucians as they enjoyed St. Lucia Jazz 2008, May 2 – 11, 2008. Many observed that this year, it was the biggest ever as massive crowds converged on one of the most exotic locations on earth. The Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Senator Allen Chastanet along with Prime Minister, Hon. Stephenson King at his side made brief appearances moments before the final performance on the night of May 11, 2008 and announced – that contrary to rumours, St. Lucia Jazz will not be discontinued, instead there is a plan to transform the event where it would be recognized not only as the best in the Caribbean but one that is the best in the world.
The period May 2 – 11, 2008 provided an opportunity for citizens to explore the Jazz experience and unite with visiting relatives and friends from overseas. It was a week when many persons took time off from their busy schedules in an effort to ease the stress of daily existence and spend some pleasurable moments with friends.
All Hotels on the North Coast were sold out for the weekend. Businesses in the services sector had a good period for Jazz 2008 and how wonderful it would be even if fifty percent of the level of business transacted could be sustained throughout the year.
During Jazz many visitors mixed business with pleasure and took the opportunity to look into acquiring a piece of the rock. In recent times, property developers are designing their properties with world class amenities to cater for the most discriminating clients.
St. Lucia is getting back into position as one of the leading destinations in the region for meetings, workshops and conferences. My guess is that the members of organisations and business travelers have adjusted to the high airfares being charged by LIAT. Recently LIAT announced a freeze on airfares but that is not what most people wanted to hear. Instead many of us will like to hear about a reduction in airfares and that the airfares confiscated by LIAT should be given back to those persons who inadvertently failed to cancel before the date of their flights. It is the Governments of the region that keep LIAT in the air and the taxpayers are the ones who in the final analysis pay the debts.
St. Lucians are settling down to the reality that crying will not help, they have to be creative in their approach to dealing with the high cost of living and doing business.
Almost on a daily basis I get a phone call or speak with persons who share their business ideas with me. I am very pleased that finally, I am hearing that people are willing to leave their comfort zones and venture out into the world of business with some very creative projects. I wish them well.
Carnival will be officially launched on Sunday, June 1, 2008. The Carnival weekend up to Carnival Monday and Tuesday runs over the period July 18 – 22, 2008. DREAMS DO COME TRUE
You are never given a wish
without also being given the power to make it come true.

The achievement of your goal is assured
the moment you commit yourself to it.
If you have the desire, you have the power to attain it.

You can have anything you want in life
if you will sacrifice everything else for it.
Your dreams can come true if you pursue them.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
