LOOKING AROUND AND NOT LIKING

EDWARD HARRIS AT LARGE!

LOOKING AROUND AND NOT LIKING
WHAT I HEAR, SEE AND FEEL BUT THERE IS HOPE!

I have been somewhat restrained due to circumstances beyond my control and I am conscious of the fact that I need to thank my readers for their patience. Father’s Day passed and I observed that many of the fortunate fathers among us were able to mark the occasion with the usual joy and celebration to maintain the tradition. On the issue of being a responsible father, my post is ablaze on www.connectingblack.com Black Issues and Culture Category as I lamented the state of father and child relationship in the black communities.

The world is experiencing very difficult if not anxious times as we witness the bullying attitude of nations such as North Korea and Iran. In the latter case there is no separation between politics and religion. Although Iran is an Islamic State, the recent actions at the highest level seem to be inconsistent with religious principles. Then there is Honduras where the President was removed from office. There seems to be a state of restlessness in the world. Tough talk is now the tactic used to keep Governments in favour with their constituents. All these postures add up to uncertainties and undermine international business.

The passing of Michael Jackson presented an opportunity for the networks to take a break from the troubling news coming out of Iran and North Korea. The news shocked the world and a spontaneous out pouring of appreciation for the life and work of Michael Jackson who became known to his faithful fans from around the world as THE KING OF POP. It seems as though it will be sometime before a determination is made as to the true cause of death. I am confident that his interment will be much sooner than in the case of James Brown, THE KING OF SOUL. I am ready to make a prediction that MJ’s Christmas albums will out sell previous records. It was a life that made an impact on the world and his legacy will last for many generations to come.

Where is Caricom Single Market and Economy headed? Half measures never help. It is time our Heads of Government decide to fully open up the region. The Regional Development Fund should be used exclusively to put in place programmes that will attract and facilitate new businesses in the countries that need development and business expansion to reduce unemployment. We have to stop giving lip service to regionalism. I say to Caricom Leaders as President Reagan said to President Gorbachev – “TAKE DOWN THIS WALL”. Let us have Free Movement of People NOW!

I feel so helpless sometimes, as I ponder about the state of our beautiful countries in this region. We are not short of ideas; we are short of listening ears of persons who can effect change. It is time that we find a method of sourcing ideas from the people and give speedy implementation to those projects that can make a difference. Business training must be decentralized. Business Centres should be established in every district with a sizeable population. Entrepreneurship is the basis for expanding an economy.

It is very refreshing to note that in these difficult times, a few restaurants and bars are opening their doors and are competing successfully. The Town of Gros Islet is the place to watch for new businesses. Recently some interesting Restaurants and Bars have opened up such as Happy Cock. The transformation of Gros Islet is moving at a fast pace.

Locals investing at this time should be commended and supported. Unlike previous summers when many persons spent their holidays overseas, this year many are forced to stay at home. With the recently built tourism properties and new developments in several arrears, it is certainly a good time to explore the island, take tours, visit restaurants and bars, and spend weekends at hotels. There are summer specials being offered by hotels at this time and as a further discount there is a LOCAL RATE. I highly recommend CALABASH COVE at Marisule, one of the newer hotels.

Here is my motivational pick of the week:
IT’S YOUR FRIENDS THAT MAKE YOUR WORLD
Your own positive energy will compel things to turn out the way
you desire when you’re surrounded by positive people.
Choose your environment with care.
Your environment is your mental feeding ground.
It’s where all the food that goes into your mind comes from.
Choose your environment with care, one that is positive,
one that lifts you up and gives you wings to soar.
Create favorable conditions through your association with others.
Avoid people who belittle your ambition.
Small people always do that, but the really great people,
make you feel that you, too, can become great.
We shape our buildings, and then they shape us.

The month of July is going to be very exciting, it kicks off with cricket and continues with Carnival. God knows we can do with some distraction from the rough times. This is the last lap before the financial storm hits land.

Keep the Faith; remember always God is in Charge, Dream Big and Expect Daily
Miracles!!!
