YOU HAVE TO CREATE YOUR OWN SPACE!

It is getting overwhelming, so much happening. There is not a dull moment although some persons will have us believe that nothing is happening. You have to create your own space. In some cases you have to get back to basics. There is urgent need to take a personal evaluation. What are your strengths and weaknesses? SWOT analysis is not only for businesses, it is for individuals as well. You need to get to the basic understanding of yourself and how your abilities can fit into the world.

Many things that worked in the past will not work today. It is not only industrial plants that need to retool, individuals too. It may even take a physical make over. The only thing that is constant is change but many persons fail to recognize this. Some continue to do the same thing over and over that produces no positive result but yet they expect a different result in spite of no change in their approach. Life is dynamic, if you are to be a part of the progressive players, you must embrace change and equip yourself to conquer the daily challenges.

Recently I received an email which drew attention to the hidden secrets of the wealthy. The principal secret is the importance of SELLING. People who are good at selling change the world. Salesmen are agents of change.

Everyday, I receive information on exciting things that are happening in St. Lucia. ICT is getting a push and I sincerely hope it will be sustained. Innovation and Technology are two buzz words that must now be translated into action. The Ministry of Communications, Works, Transport and Public Utilities in collaboration with the Caribbean Telecommunications Union as part of the commemoration of their 21st anniversary, present the Saint Lucia leg of the ICT Road show. The road show has been developed to raise awareness within the public sector, the private sector, civil society and academia, of the innovative approaches possible and necessary for the effective use of ICT in government, business and social development. The Saint Lucia ICT Road show is slated for June 1-2, 2010 at the Bay Gardens Hotel. The theme of the road show is “Harnessing the Power of Innovation – The Engine for ICT enabled Caribbean Development”.

ECTEL has also partnered with the Ministry Communications, Works, Transport and Public Utilities. They as part of their tenth anniversary celebrations will be hosting and organizing the Policy and Regulators Forum slated for Wednesday June2, 2010 at Bay Gardens.

The Saint Lucia Coalition of Services Industries Inc. is continuing to collaborate with its member organizations and the ICT sector is now on a sound footing since the establishment of an Association. The Coalition has a major role to play in ensuring that service providers come together and share experiences while at the same time ensuring that appropriate training is made available to individuals and companies operating in the sector.

While many sit on the fence waiting for something to happen, others are taking things into their own hands. The distribution and administrative infrastructure is taking shape, lots of new commercial buildings are going up, especially in the quarter of Gros Islet.

During the past week I was involved in sourcing Search Engine Optimisation Services (SEO). It was an eye opener. This is the most important task in ensuring that your website delivers. I will share my findings on this important topic when my search is ended.

Who is going to be first to open a real club for executives to go anytime of day or night and do business in a relaxed atmosphere that offers a degree of privacy? Most of our restaurants are wide open to everyone’s view. The biggest deals are done in clubs in the developed world. The opportunity also exists for a great dance club for matured patrons. Dancing is a great exercise and should be encouraged. The clubs I refer to must be sound proof so that noise nuisance will not be a factor.

It is great to note that finally there seems to be some movement in the direction of establishing a Casino here. As a former Chairman of the Gaming Authority, I look on with keen interest and can’t wait to sit at the Black Jack table. Dual Nationality has its benefits.

Stay safe, Keep the Faith, God is in Charge and expect Daily Miracles!
