RISE St. LUCIA INC. IS ON THE RIGHT TRACK! 

I am continuously telling myself that I should pack up on everything and do as some of my friends, step aside and enjoy what is left of my life. I could have retired from everything a long time ago but there is something that keeps me refusing to yield to that voice that whispers to me, to step aside. I refuse to step aside. I will never retire from serving my fellowmen. 

When I stop attending meetings and workshops and I try to keep a low profile, then I get a nudge to respond to an invitation. Last Tuesday was one such occasion and every time such a situation occurs, I end up being so happy for the opportunity. Something happens and I am energized. 

RISE has struck a chord.  The hard work of the organisation’s leaders paid dividends. Dr. Barnwell Osula made an excellent presentation on Leadership and Development to a packed NIC Conference Centre. I was moved by his call to action. 

The record shows that I have been calling on leaders in government and civil society to expose citizens to Motivational Speakers and other opportunities for self improvement. Our people need to be motivated to see hope in the midst of despair. In times of anxiety and uncertainty as we are experiencing today, it will take guidance to firstly understand that the world has experienced worse conditions before and has bounced back to create wealth for its people everywhere. 

When the going is rough, the rough gets going. Dr. Osula called for action in the area of Innovation and Technology and emphasized the point that Innovation is not only about creating something new but taking what exists and make it better. I was even further moved when he so beautifully brought Entrepreneurship into the discourse. He cited actual businesses that persons could be involved in. That is what has been absent in most presentations in the past. Dr. Osula gave his audience several gems to take away. The challenge is – what happens next? The majority of attendees will have to be shown the way. 

I was energized to the point where I am ready to volunteer my services. I wrote a nuts and bolts book on MSME Fundamentals entitled “You can be a Successful Business Person” and will like to share my experiences with groups and bring life to the discussion which has begun.  

God gives us the desires of our hearts. After being moved at the Conference by Dr. Osula, I woke up the following day to an email from the Chamber inviting me to be a Business Mentor on a new programme that it is currently promoting – St. Lucia Youth Business Trust. I want to leave a legacy and I am ready to share. There is so much we need to know about business. While the playing field is claimed to be level, the landscape is changing. In the new economy Change is the only Constant. 

The importance of Readers being Leaders cannot be over emphasized, timely information is critical to keeping ahead of your game. The harvest is plenteous but the labourers are few. RISE may wish to consider training the trainer to take the message beyond the NIC Conference Centre, if nothing else to articulate the principles exposed to the wider community. We need a continuous message of hope, with actual results to validate the experience. 

There is urgent need for a comprehensive study of the types of internet driven businesses that have global reach and not only dependent upon our 160,000 population. This will be one step that will guarantee that students even before leaving school will begin to earn on the internet and ultimate operate their own Home Based Businesses. 

At my ripe old age, I am relying almost exclusively on the internet to deliver global businesses.  I must admit I am finding it extremely difficult to do it alone. There is a critical mass necessary to effectively promote an internet business. We must come together, even if it is for the purpose of sharing ideas.

When I joined earlier this week, there were 417,000 members and I was first for St. Lucia. I am seeking to be friends with those persons seeking to look into acquiring property during their vacation and of course bona fide Foreign Direct Investors.
