THE JOY OF EASTER!
Happy Easter Holidays to my readers everywhere! This is a special time of year when Christians around the word celebrate their risen Saviour. St. Lucians are fully involved in the activities spiritually, culturally and socially during the season. This is a holy season when Christians and non Christians abstain from habits which they consider inconsistent with the holy season. In at the end there is great rejoicing and many try to make up for lost time. But the joy is as a result of great sacrifice – no pain, no gain.
Apart from the great rejoicing that comes in the end, I am mostly reminded of the lessons of sacrifice and love that we take away from the Easter story. Everyone can relate to the periods of sacrifice in their life and in the end the joy that comes along. Life is a continuous path of sacrifice seasoned with love. Love lightens the burden, makes pain bearable and gives us reasons to carry on. It is the several acts of love that sees us through the difficult periods of our lives. However, I feel that too many people fail to look back and try to understand how it all happened and in spite of the difficulties, they were able to rise again.
The promises contained in the Easter story are life changing and uplifting, and gives great hope to all who will accept the gift of eternal life. Some of the promises are so reassuring. I don’t want to preach a sermon even though I am tempted. I feel deep inside a joy that is so fulfilling that I want to sing and   dance. What a feeling? It is Joy! Joy! Joy!
Looking at happenings in the nation, there is an atmosphere of expectancy; everyone is looking forward to better days and generally the future looks good. It looks good because St. Lucians are people of faith and the biblical meaning of faith is – the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. What a position to hold fast to, leaving everything in the capable hands of the Creator. There are so many thoughts jumping out of my mind. I mentioned earlier that I felt like singing and dancing. It is all because I am happy, and most of all I am free. What a feeling. I urge you to take some time off during the holidays to reflect upon the past and make a commitment to be a better citizen based on the examples set out in the Easter story.
I pray that as you read this article you will share my joy and be happy! Greater love hath no man that the Creator’s Son laid down his life for the sinners of this world past and present. If it had not been for the Creator’s Son who gave freely, even of his life, we would not have been celebrating Easter. What joy it is to be standing on the promises of the Creator. The promises are so great that people around the world of all races at great sacrifice are standing on the promises and refuse to turn back but moving forward whether it is in life or in death.
There is no better time for a revival in our hearts. This special time of year gives an opportunity to take a new look at the way we live our lives and making a commitment to being our brother’s keeper. Most people live for themselves but the real joy of living comes from caring for others. It is in giving that we receive. Be involved in the service of others.
