WINERA HAS SERVED A GENERATION

The Bible refers to a generation as forty years. Congratulations to the Shreholders, Board of Directors, Management and staff of the Windward Islands Packaging Company on their attainment of 40 years in business as a manufacturimg entity. The occasion was celebrated in fine style in keeping with the passing of such an important milestone. Employees were recognised for 20, 30 and 40 years of dedicated service. The Venezeulan Joint Venture has stood the test of time and is now in a position to share the success strategies that have brought the company through difficult times to a position where it now has a competitive edge.

There are success stories in the South even in these difficult times. Everyone knows about the state of the economies globally but in every corner of the globe, people are making money and in some cases lots of it. St. Lucia is no exception. During a conversation with Mr. Perez, General Manager of WINERA at the 40th Anniversary Cocktail Reception which went into overtime, I discussed with him the possibility of sharing the company’s approach to survival in these difficult economic times with the Southern business community. He expressed a willingness to do so. There are lessons to be learnt but there must be opportunities to share experiences.

I am vindicated with respect to my optimism about the South. This is the place to be. I warned Entrepreneurs in the North to establish a presence in the South, generally to take advantage of the opportunities while there is still space and more importantly while prices for real estate – commercial and industrial space are still reasonable, between 1.00 and 1.50 ECD per square foot.  In the next six months I am ready to predict that prices are going to escalate because of demand.

The Free Zone is gearing up for better days and it is expected to be really buzzing in the next quarter. I continue to be excited about the prospects for Vieux Fort. It is truly the new Frontier. Visualise the possibilities, move on down. Secure your space. Don’t ever give me the cause to say “I told you so.” Just imagine the possibilities! Stop thinking about it – Just do it. It is a great time to be a part of the business community in the South of the island.

There are lots of interesting things happening in the South, be a part of the action. Don’t wait for it to happen, be a part of making it happen. “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” JFK.

Looking to Carnival 2012, Vieux Fort launched its Carnival 2012 last Sunday and I had the pleasure of being in the company of Joycie Mederick of Cinnamon Productions and her group of Anse La Raye Carnival Queen Show Contestants who came down to Vieux Fort to attend the launching of Carnival. The beautiful young ladies are very excited about their participation in the pageant and I am ready to predict there will be an upset in the results. It is a very competitive situation. I am very happy to note the level of decentralisation of the various cultural and social activities in the country. This is good for the residents in the communities across the country.

Here is my motivational piece of the week:

EVERYONE HAS A CHANCE FOR SUCCESS

People often handle life as they do bad weather.  They while away the time waiting for it to stop.  Yet the tide of opportunity comes to everyone.

Opportunity knocks all the time, but you’ve got to be ready for it.  When your chance comes, you must have the equipment to take advantage of it.

The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, for time and chance happen to everyone.  Take a second look at what appears to be someone’s “good luck.”  You’ll find not luck but preparation, planning and success-producing thinking.

When you’re prepared for opportunity your chance for success is sure to come.  The season of failure is the best time for sowing the seeds of success.

Decide that this year will be your year for success and prepare for it to happen.
