PRESS RELEASE Doubloon International Limited, the developers of the new five-star resort, Discovery at Marigot Bay, held a meeting on Thursday 8th April at the Marigot Village Community Centre to announce the start of construction. The purpose of the meeting was to inform the local community about the Discovery building programme and display the scale model of the hotel which is due to open in late Summer 2005. John Verity, Managing Director of Doubloon, outlined the plans for the hotel and marina village and Gary Dodd, Country Manager of construction company Johnston International, spoke about the building programme and the opportunities for the local workforce. The people from Marigot who attended the meeting were invited to make comments and ask questions. The Honourable Jon Odlum, Parliamentary Representative for Castries South, and Margaret Lebrin, the Marigot Community Officer, also addressed the meeting on the subject of the jobs which will be created in Marigot by the Discovery project. It was acknowledged that unemployment is currently high in the area and the large number of employment opportunities created will be of great value to the community. It is anticipated that up to 300 people will be employed during the building phase of the programme and that approximately 200 hospitality industry vacancies will be created when the hotel itself opens in 2005.
