\nThe political noises are getting louder. The SLP pulled off a massive crowd at their Protest March last Sunday.
\nDengue Fever has claimed the life of an adult male this past week and as a result, an Alert was activated by the Ministry of Health. The rainy season is always attractive to the type of mosquitoes that bring discomfort and death. There has been some spraying of the special insecticide for mosquitoes that has been used for decades. However, it may be time to change the insecticide and introduce a new one.
\nThe protocols for COVID 19 are continuing to work for us. In the meantime, remember to wash your hands, wear mask and maintain social distancing. St. Lucia continues to be COVID 19 Death Free! Thank God!
\nAir Transportation:
\nAs I was writing the notes for this programme, I saw a news flash that LIAT is likely to return to the skies shortly. That is great news for us in St. Lucia and travellers in the rest of CARICOM.
\nPolitics in other CARICOM States:
\nGuyana:
\nThe Guyanese Critic seems to have adopted a new role post the final election results, and the installation of a new government. He is now ensuring that the Government delivers on its campaign promises and that Ministers perform. While being the problem solver for many Guyanese, he is aggressively expanding his media services which will shortly include a Newspaper.
\nThe COVID 19 cases continue to rise in Guyana. The curfew restriction has been amended with new hours from 4.00 am to 9.00 pm. This is understandable, due to the distances people travel from many of the areas that produce goods and services, to get to the city in reasonable time.
\nThe situation with the frontline medical personnel is being looked into and should be resolved shortly. With the airports due to reopen in a few weeks, the medical services will have to be operating at maximum efficiency.
\nSt. Vincent & The Grenadines:
\nFinally, the bell has been rung for elections in our neighbouring island – SVG. Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has been able to maintain his party in Government even though with a one seat majority, but – a win is a win. His performance will be tested once again on the 5th of November, 2020, two days after the US elections.
\nPolitics in the U.S.A
\nAt the Vice Presidential Debate last Wednesday, VP Pence was given several knockout punches by Senator Kamala Harris, the Democratic Nominee for Vice President. VP Pence seemed to be answering questions from another moderator, and like the President but to a lesser degree, he tried to interrupt VP nominee Kamala when she was speaking, and when his opportunity came to speak, almost on every occasion, he extended his time. The 37 million viewers had some moments to remember, especially when Senator Kamala mentioned that important government support such as health care and a woman\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s choice on abortion \u00e2\u20ac\u201c They are coming for you.
\nOnly one debate between the Vice Presidential Candidates was scheduled but the Presidential Candidates should have had two more. But due to fussing by President Trump in spite of his illness, the debate scheduled for 15th October, 2020 was cancelled. Now the final debate is scheduled for the 22nd October 2020.
\nWhile President Trump was presenting suggestions for the debate, he went back on his decision to discontinue talks on the COVID 19 Stimulus until after the elections, and called upon his negotiating team to continue negotiations.
\nThe thirteen men charged on the weekend with plotting to kidnap the Governor of Michigan is the type of disruption that is likely reoccur on Election Day and beyond.
\nSince President Trump\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s release from the hospital, he has become very erratic and is doing things that are not consistent with the state of his health, especially exposing his followers unnecessarily. The operations of the white house are very confused at this time.
\nAll persons of faith should be calling on God to put a hand.
\nStaying Alive Financially:
\nHas anything changed this week with your finances? Those persons who are lucky not to have experienced any disruption in their earnings are OK. Unfortunately, the thousands who have been sent home or receiving reduced earnings are the ones who are most stressed. The bad news is, there is no end in sight.
\nHow do many of us get over the hurdle of lack of money to pay our bills and feed ourselves?
\nDuring the early stage of this programme, I shared with my audience, the importance of Google and Youtube in assisting to identify possible side hustle opportunities and provide them with general information. Here are a few ideas
\n1. Promote your skills and knowledge. 2. Teach what you know. 3. Create and sell your wares such as handicraft, etc. 4. Identify a few products and sell house to house. 5. Promote a Flea Market.
\nTo ensure that you will be making sense of your proposed project, undertake a survey to test the demand for your product\/service.
\nWhen you come across an idea that you feel will work, you can share it with me and I will be delighted to discuss the project with you. I have seen persons with just an idea that have transformed their lives from being unemployed or employee to business person.
