CREATIVITY WILL TAKE US THROUGH
\nTHESE EXTRAORDINARILY DIFFICULT TIMES!!!<\/p>\n
It is not usual for me to seek the meaning of a word. I usually take it for granted that since I use simple words that everyone understands. It is so important that I ensure that my readers are on the same page with me when together we invoke CREATIVITY in our lives. So here is the meaning of this important word \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Creativity means the ability to create new ideas or things using your imagination (Macmillan English Dictionary).<\/p>\n
Too many people expect everything to be done for them and they never seek to use their imagination to think of something new or different. If it is not broken, don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t fix it. That is the philosophy of many business persons who never get to the next level and struggle to keep their businesses alive. Year after year they continue on the same path without even taking note of what is happening in their industry. They are totally oblivious of their environment. Others continue to do the same things over time, expecting different results in changing times. In moving forward you must be cognizant of the trends and adjust accordingly.<\/p>\n
There are quite a lot of fundamental things that the average business person take for granted and in many cases chose to ignore. We hear about the need for Vision Statement, Mission Statement, Organisational Chart, Strategic Plan, Business Plan, Marketing Plan, Budget, Profit & Loss Account, Balance Sheet, etc, etc. A Budget must be monitored to ensure that the performance matches expectations. It is necessary in these times to review budgets on a regular basis and adjust as necessary. Business persons must resist the temptation of getting emotionally attached to their businesses. The key to survival is to trim off the fat, tighten belts, sharpen pencil, and simply do whatever is necessary to keep the ship afloat.<\/p>\n
The time to be prudent in every decision in your life\/business is now. The principle of giving must be practiced. Businesses must give consideration to their environment and empower people to help themselves. The advertising and promotional budgets must target their audience to cope with the changes that they need to effect in their lives. Entertainment products should be projected as a reward for achieving something while on the other hand injecting resources to strengthen NGOs to deliver on their mandate to alleviate poverty and develop better citizens. Businesses must find creative ways of spending their promotional dollars not only to increase sales but also be beneficial to society. I have a few ideas but will deal with them in a future article.<\/p>\n
I have laboured the point enough to conclude that CREATIVITY is the answer. We must do things differently. Our ability to use our creative power will help us achieve for ourselves and others. What do you intend to do differently this year given the global financial environment? I am happy to note that the local entrepreneurs are playing their part in industry. The businesses that are moving forward are led by Entrepreneurs who understand that regardless of what is happening in the world\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s economy, there are still individuals and companies with money. Investment Missions to Russia and Arab nations must be on the cards for 2009. Are we going to wait for America to give us clearance to deal with them? We have seen the investments made by China in the region in recent years. <\/p>\n
We are losing too many opportunities because of lack of urgency. There were lost opportunities in getting investments from petroleum dollars. We must work with the trends and be on spot to share in the gold rush. We must be knocking at the door from day one. We must improve our \u00e2\u20ac\u0153ease of doing business\u00e2\u20ac\u009d ranking. We can do better than #34. Only our BEST will do!<\/p>\n

\nwill come to your assistance.

I pray that the crisis will be swift and that the world\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s economy will return to normalcy in the shortest possible time.
