It was the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King which lives today in progress of Senator Barack Obama – the next President of the United States of America! History was created last Tuesday night when Senator Barack Obama took to the stage to announce his claim to the nomination as the Presidential Candidate for the Democratic Party.
No one saw this great achievement possible when the race began several months ago. It was all about Senator Hillary Clinton. However, as the months went by it was Senator Obama who won the small States with Senator Clinton taking the large ones but not enough to finish in front of Senator Obama. There were nail biting periods for both candidates at one stage or another but in the end, it was Senator Obama’s message of Change that resonated and he was finally applauded as the victor.
What will this development mean to the world? One word is sure to be occupying the minds of the peoples of the world – CHANGE! It will not be business as usual in Washington when President Barack Obama assumes office in January 2009. The Obama Movement proved that when the time for change has come, there will be no stopping it. Now everyone is holding on to CHANGE. CHANGE is the magic word. Change you can believe in takes more than words. It takes all the actions that separate on the one hand the way Washington currently does business and on the other, good governance on behalf of the people which Senator Obama brings to the table.
America is on the road to a recession, the country is fighting its enemies in Iraq and Afghanistan while helping to keep the peace in other parts of the world. The people of America seem to be interested in two issues that will decide the upcoming elections – Winning the Wars and keeping the Peace at home and abroad on the one hand and the Economy on the other. My take is on one issue – who is able to take care of business in these challenging times? Senator Mc Cain is not with it. He is stuck in the past Washington. The call is for a change in the way business is done in Washington and that is the only reason why Senator Obama has come this far.
When President Obama takes the oath of office in the new year, the Change Factor will resound around the world. A change has got to come and the time is now. Even now – the change is evident. I believe too much is made about experience from day one to deal with world’s problems. Regardless of who becomes the next President of the USA, he will have to rely heavily on his advisors. Judgement will be important.
The tasks ahead for the next President of the USA will call for immediate and massive action as it relates to Health Care, Foreclosures, Fuel Prices, etc., etc. That is enough for USA politics and may Senator Obama continue to shine.
Honourable Stephenson King released his Cabinet this week. It is hoped that a solution to the problems within the party and government has been worked out and the Cabinet of Ministers will now settle down to do the work they have pledged to do. A lot has been lost and it will depend upon what happens in the weeks ahead to make up for lost time. I continue to lament the fact that once again the Government has failed to recognize the need for a Ministry or Secretariat of Innovation and Technology. These two important platforms are best able to transform our economy and must be driven by the Government.
Keep the Faith, God is in Charge, Dream Big and Expect Miracles all the time!!!
