IT WAS TEARS, THEN JUBILIATION AS BARACK OBAMA CROSSED THE FINISHING LINE!!!

The date, November 4, 2008 will go down in history as America voted for its first Black President. It is no longer a dream, it is reality. It was a proud moment as America confirmed it was ready for a Black President. People of goodwill around the world are ecstatic about Obama’s victory. Tears flowed from the eyes of many, even the skeptics. Is it real? Has it actually happened? What a Movement? President Elect Barack Obama’s organizational ability is evident and gives us hope about his ability to lead with good judgment.

Obama ran a quality campaign about the fray. John Mc Cain was in a negative mode throughout the campaign feeding off of the mistakes of the other side. He found all the negative issues to throw at Barack but none sticked. The electorate stood firmly behind their man. The endorsement of Oprah Winfrey in the early stages of the campaign and Colin Powell sealed the victory for Obama. Money has never been an issue. At the end of the campaign, it is reported that the Obama campaign has extra cash. Obama and his campaign team have added a new twist to campaign fund raising. Don’t underestimate the power of small man. Those US$5.00 contributors have made a difference. There are three books that can be best sellers when they are written – (1) HOW TO RAISE FUNDS FOR A POLITICAL CAMPAIGN & (2) HOW TO WIN AN ELECTION AS AN UNKNOWN (3) HOW THE GALVANISE GLOBAL SUPPORT TO WIN AN ELECTION. There are many suggestions that will come up in the future for names of the books but at this time all I wish to do is to express the need for such publications.

What lessons can our politicians in the Caribbean learn from Barack Obama’s rise to the holding the highest office in the United States of America. I believe that a number of panel discussions should be scheduled to look at all aspects of the Barack Obama’s campaign.
Throughout the campaign Barack Obama was outstanding. There are enormous challenges ahead for the first Black President of the United States of America. I am however impressed with his team of advisors who he will rely upon guide him. I feel he is on the right track and I am confident that he will deliver.

Prior to November 4, 2008, it was all about uncertainties and anxieties but as it became known that Obama crossed the finishing line, it was all excitement around the world. What a moment? This is the hand on God on a man anointed to lead a great nation. It is only God that has brought about the change we are about to experience. The theme – A Government of the people, by the people and for the people excites me. Too often leaders forget their principal purpose is to serve the people. As Brother George used to say – you have to keep your ears to the ground. It is necessary for politicians to listen to the people. In business we learn to provide what the customers need in conformity with the 4 Ps and control the market. Be close to the people and get consensus.

CHANGE has come to the USA and it is the type of change, the peoples of the world can believe in. The expectations are high. We look forward to Inauguration Day. In the meantime, it is transition time and President Elect Barack Obama seems up to the job. Things will be moving fast. Fasten your seat belts and get ready for the ride of your life.
Here is my selected quote for the week:
YOU CAN OPEN ANY DOOR WITH CONCENTRATION
——————————————————————————–
The first law of success is concentration.
Bend all of your energies to one point,
and go directly to that point,
looking neither to the right nor the left.
Concentration is the magic key
that opens the door to accomplishment.
In time, you can become what you earnestly desire to be,
if you set your face in the direction of the things you want
and bring all your powers to bear towards its attainment.
When your physical and mental resources are focused,
your power to solve problems multiplies tremendously.
To do two things at once is to do neither.
Success is the result of well directed energy.
Nothing can add more power to your life
as much as concentrating all your energies
on a limited set of targets.
The sun’s rays do not burn until brought to a focus.
