IT IS TIME FOR APPOINTING YOUTH AMBASSADORS IN SAINT LUCIA!

The Dictionary definition of the word Ambassador includes – someone who is considered to represent an activity, organization company, etc. Young persons who can be considered leaders could be found in every community across St. Lucia. It is time that these exemplary youngsters be recognized and challenged to serve their communities. I am fully convinced that recognition brings out the best in individuals. It is for this reason I commend the Chamber for promoting the St. Lucia Business Awards.

It is now St. Lucia Industrial & Small Business Association’s turn to recognize the outstanding businesses in the Micro, Small & Medium Enterprise (MSME) Sector. It is very interesting to note that the associations are not restricting the Awards to their members only but any successful business could be nominated. President Flavia Cherry has been successful in getting support for a number of programmes initiated by the association. The most recent was a Business Mission to Martinique, sponsored by SEQUA.

My search for guests for my TV show – Let’s Talk Business on HWTV Channels 42 Lime and 78 Karibcable and online at www.sluhwtv.com, Wednesdays at 8.00 pm. I am getting first hand knowledge of several talented individuals in St. Lucia. The creativity of our business persons in the literary arts and services sectors are striking a high note at this time but there is need for simple steps that need to be undertaken with a sense of urgency. I specifically refer to a database for identifying the players in the various industries. Local business persons are losing a lot of business to overseas contractors because of a lack of knowledge of locally available service providers by potential clients. We need to develop an effective Database for all categories of business giving priority to Services and Literary Arts Industries.

Some of our young people are on their way to the big league but there is need for venture capital support to get them up to world class status. I am certain that there are Investment Angels who can be encouraged to take a look at St. Lucia’s budding Entrepreneurs. Something has to be done quickly as our young people are getting restless and are very likely to venture abroad, leaving the country poorer for their action.

I met a young gentleman who gave me a lot of reasons to be comforted that our young people are capable in keeping the Entrepreneurial spirit alive in Saint Lucia. He has established multiple streams of income and is involved in Temporary Brush Tattoo Designs, Carnival Costume Designs, and Kay Dee Dolls with yet another company to be launched shortly. I am certain that many of my readers know the person I am referring to. Just in case you don’t recognize who he is, I am pleased to introduce you to Mr. Gilland Avril, He participated in a number of business development and skills programmes sponsored by OPSR, Belfund and other agencies. His team placed third in the Big Start TV programme, nominated for Idea of the Year and the Prime Minister’s award for Innovation at the recently held Chamber’s St. Lucia Business Awards. I am ready to support Mr. Gilland Avril’s nomination for an award for Outstanding Young Entrepreneur and Youth Ambassador.

I am trying to catch up on my appreciation for the arts. I attended The Film & Audio–Visual Night organized by PACE in collaboration with CDF on Wednesday, 16th February, 2011. The event was dedicated to the memory of video-journalist Francis “Photobias” Tobias. It was an enjoyable evening and I am now aware of the several achievements of our leading local artistes and producers. We need to take these programmes to the schools so that an awareness could be developed by the students who will in turn discuss their experience with their parents. Ultimately, we will have greater appreciation and involvement of our citizens in Arts and Culture.

I am pleased to announce the launch of my first How To Book targeting Foreign Direct Investment in the Real Estate sector. Title: Introduction to Investing in Real Estate in Saint Lucia. Now available at www.i-proclaimbookstore.com

You can join Gilland and Ed at www.groups.yahoo.com/globalmillionairesclub and let us network. Your contribution will help to encourage others. Don’t wait on a JOB, create one! Become a Youth Ambassador!
