ARE WE LIVING IN THE LAST DAYS???

ARE WE LIVING IN THE LAST DAYS?

The signs of the times are very revealing. Some folks will hasten to conclude that the end is near but the actual timing no one knows. If I have a choice, I will prefer to be caught up to meet my Saviour in the air. After all, who wants to die? Except for those who commit suicide, to be alive and in health is the greatest gift.

In recent months the death announcements include persons in certain age groups that were never dying in such numbers before. Many are called to higher service in their prime. Although I am at the age of retirement, I want to keep busy and continue to share my experiences. In so doing, I believe that my Heavenly Father will extend my life beyond the promise of three score and ten years, and well beyond four score. There is one way to get the blessing of long life – keep busy, doing good.

I am not only doing my best to keep busy. I am also trying to learn new things. I subscribe to the statement – you never stop learning. Last Saturday I attended a Writing Workshop at the Central Library. Messrs G. Rayman and K. Hippolyte were the presenters. Since I decided to pursue a writing career, I have attended a number of literary programmes and am dedicated to developing an appreciation for the arts in general. The time spent at the workshop provided me with an opportunity to learn about Poetry Writing and Presentation. During the workshop, the participants were given an assignment to write a poem. I am so proud of my achievement that I will share my poem with you:

I dream of my days of poverty

When men and women lacked creativity

Time was so hard everything was backward

Then came innovation and technology forward

Now everyone enjoys modern day reality.

Miss Marie Benjamin and a group of published authors will launch a Publishing Company shortly to give persons interested in writing, the encouragement and support necessary for them to be successful. I am very supportive of this venture as I see a great future for persons interested in writing.

No matter what we believe, even if the world will end in May or October, 2011or not, we must be consistent in forging ahead with all aspects of national development, especially in the area of the economy. It was interesting to note that members of a Trade Mission promoting products manufactured in Barbados visited St. Lucia on March 21& 22, 2011. The mission was supported by Barbados Manufacturers’ Association, Barbados Industrial Development Corporation and LIAT Cargo. Products included Spices and Seasonings, PVC Windows, Solar Heaters, Costume Jewelry, etc.

Persons seeking to move cargo in the region now have a dedicated air cargo service being offered by LIAT. You can check details of the service at www.liatcargo.com Agricultural Products are accepted.

The Realtors Association (Saint Lucia) Inc. held its first Annual General Meeting on March 22, 2011. Miss Heather Floissac was unanimously re-elected to the post of President and was given a new Executive to undertake the task of collaborating with the government to regulate the real estate industry. Mr. Titus Preville, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation was the Guest Speaker. He lauded the initiatives of the members of the Association and assured the gathering of the Ministry’s support. Members drew to Mr. Preville’s attention, the need for their involvement in Tourism related activities as they are very much involved in promoting the destination. They also look forward to the materialization of a Real Estate Tourism programme which was discussed with the Minister – Senator, Honourable Allen Chastanet.

I was kept busy this past week. I look forward to attending the Fashion Show on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the Royal St. Lucian Hotel. Cinnamon Productions promises its patrons a night to remember. Overseas Fashion Promoters will be in attendance.

Whenever the end comes, be ready. In the meantime, keep busy and enjoy yourself.

Remember always to Keep the Faith, God is in Charge, Dream Big and expect Daily Miracles!
