St. Lucia is located at 14 degrees latitude and 61 degrees longitude, 21 miles South of Martinique, 26 miles North of St.Vincent with Barbados 110 miles North East. The English and the French fought for St. Lucia fourteen times, with the island becoming a British colony in 1814. The beautiful island is known as the Helen of the West Indies and is overlooked by two majestic mountains known as Petit and Gros Pitons.

The island state gained its independence from Britain in 1979 and is now administered by a Parliament of 17 and a Cabinet of Ministers headed by Honorable Dr. Kenny Anthony – Prime Minister. Within a period of thirty years, the current party in office only ruled the Island State of 238 square miles for just over two years, on 23rd of May 1997 the ruling party was swept into office with a landslide victory of sixteen out of the possible seventeen seats.

Again, on the 3rd of December, 2001, the Party was swept back into office with another land slide victory winning fourteen out of the possible seventeen seats.

The Population is estimated at 150,000 and is sustained by the Agriculture sector chiefly with the exports of Bananas, Tourism, Services and light manufacturing. The country continues to perform creditably by all economic indicators and offers the best opportunities for investments within the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), including Antigua & Barbuda, Grenada, Dominica, Montserrat, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

In the area of Tourism, Visitors Expenditure was highest in the region accounting for US$725.90 million in 1997. With Honeymooners finding paradise here, the Jazz Festival now being rated number five (5) in the world and St. Lucia boasting a Drive In Volcano, the island is well poised for the expansion of tourism sector.
