THE PARTY IS OVER; IT’S TIME TO GET BACK TO WORK!

It has been a wonderful holiday season and I wish my readers had as much fun as I did. It is now time to get back to work and kick off 2012 with a commitment for making Saint Lucia a better place. There will be challenging times ahead and it will be necessary to embrace the only constant – change, if we are to be successful in our quest for solutions to the social and economic crises. 

I woke up to this email on New Year’s Day which I now share with my readers. “Hi Edward! Here is your Daily Horoscope for Sunday, January 1, 2012. You start the day and the year with tremendous energy — so much so that you feel unstoppable! It may very well be that you pull off some amazing feats, so get ready to make a real difference!” This is exactly what I plan to do. It is a good feeling to know that I am in harmony with the stars.

The year 2012 has finally dawned. It’s hard to say it but it’s true. And to be perfectly honest, I’m pretty excited about it. Yes, finally 2011 is behind us. 2011 was a horrible year for far too many; 2011 was a great year for far too few. I hope you were part of the few. I hope I’m not the only one that can’t believe it’s over.  What a year? But 2012 is going to be an amazing year, fasten your seat belts and get ready for the ride of your life. Opportunity is everywhere.  It’s certainly overwhelming. You only have so much time, so what do you focus on to break free? Obviously the answer will be different for everyone. 

I am optimistic about the future because I am fully convinced that opportunities do exist but these will have to be driven by   powerful ideas that can be translated into successful businesses. These ideas must be based on the creativity of potential and existing business persons. I challenge you to look around and not just look at what other persons are doing and copy blindly but rather look around and see what you can improve upon or do differently. There are lots of businesses that with a little tweaking can double their performance. The Office of Private Sector Relations (OPSR) introduced a programme some time ago that provided Diagnostic Studies for Companies. I feel that the time has come to reintroduce this programme as too many persons will give up on their businesses, all because they cannot see the possibilities that are before them. 

When frustration steps in, it is time to revisit the systems employed in your business; you will be amazed at the simple changes that can put you back on track. It is time for business persons to seek to secure the services of Business Coaches who will sit with them and discuss the status of their businesses. A fresh outside view rather than sticking to the same old routine could really make a difference. I am pleasantly surprised by the amount of new project ideas that have been brought to my attention in recent weeks. I am also working on a few of my own. I like the energy I am witnessing as I discuss the economic future with persons with whom I come into contact.

One of my friends invited me to watch night service and I couldn’t refuse the opportunity since I was brought up attending services in that denomination. I was blessed with a wonderful sermon. The preacher in lamenting the state of crime in general in the country cited that the problem has to be dealt with from the top down, not the bottom up. My take away is that unless those at the top show example, the bottom will make choices that will not be in keeping with law and order. Our friends can truly bring out the good in us, encourage your friends to visit your church and enjoy the fellowship that emanates from a congregation of disciples.

Remember always to Keep the Faith, God is in Charge, Dream Big and expect Daily Miracles!
