THE SOUTH IS READY TO EXHALE!
OMG! I just feel that something great is about to happen in Vieux Fort and environs. I attended the recording of the second show in the series Family Reflections featuring Pebbles in my shoes – How to survive in critical times last Sunday at Coconut Bay Resort. It was a blessing to hear the stories told by the two guests who are differently abled. We do have stories to tell. I am convinced that with the right environment, St. Lucians can contribute substantially to local radio and television programming. Ms. Mathurine Emmanuel and her team should be complemented for the bold step they have taken.
By Tuesday Hon. Emma Hippolyte, Minister for Commerce, Business Development, Investment and Consumer Affairs was addressing business persons in the South at a Chamber Luncheon held at Kimatrai Hotel on initiatives being undertaken by her ministry. She was supported by the Parliamentary Secretary in her Ministry and Ministers with responsibility for Tourism and Foreign Affairs. The Minister of Commerce expressed the pressing need for St. Lucia to be a hassle free destination providing Ease of Doing Business and improving its ranking in the World Bank Report in the short term. The Minister is upbeat and given her background, the Ministry will once again execute its mandate purposefully. Business is the engine of growth.
On Wednesday, Stakeholders were meeting at Juliette’s Lodge to discuss the way forward for the Free Zone Authoity. The new Chairman of the Board – Mr. Rolston Taylor is very knowlegable about the operations of the Free Zone and looks forward to providing improved services to the tennants. Mr. Taylor noted that it is one of government’s objectives to make St. Lucia, the easiest place for doing business in the Caribbean in the shortest possible time.
My contact with business persons gives me further confidence in the future of business in the South. Many business persons have welcomed me back to the South with open arms and I had no problem in settling in. I hear a call for a business luncheon by one of the leading manufacturing executives in the South and I know someone was requested to put it together. In the meantime, I hear the Chamber making some bold statements which lead me to conclude that the Chamber plans to be more active in the South. There are whispers about a Southern Chamber but you don’t need to reinvent the wheel. The Chamber should make its move now, the South cannot wait.
Entrepreneurs in the South are taking the lead. We now have all types of manufacturing, retail and professional service businesses in the South. A local Deveoper is in the construction stage of a project that will set the standard for future projects in the South. An interesting development is that local persons are showing interest in this upscale development and some have already committed.
Those who have been watching and waiting to establish branches or to invest in new projects in the South are advised to make the move without any further delay. Don’t wait another day. Make your move now. Secure your space in the New Frontier. It is no longer a dream, it is fast becoming reality.
Recreational facilities are improving. The beaches are very much occipied with locals at weekends and new restaurants, bars and entertainment spots are opening up. You can still get a meal for EC$10.00 and beverages are priced within the reach of customers. The future is in the South, be a part of the experience.
Here is my motivational piece of the week:
THE SEED OF SUCCESS LIES IN YOUR IMAGINATION
Visualize all the things that you want in life. Then make your mental blue print, and begin to build.
Your imagination can show you how to turn your possibilities into reality.
You must make every thought, every fact, that comes into your mind pay you a profit. Make those mental images work and produce for you.
Think of things not as they are but as you want them to be. Don’t just dream, be creative.
The will to succeed springs from the knowledge that you can succeed.
