Harris At Large on Sunday!
Program: #5
Salutation/Introduction:
Hello Folks! Happy Sunday!
This Live Show is coming to you from Black Bay in the Quarter of Vieux Fort, St. Lucia!
Here is my selected Quote of the week:
“I understand that it’s hard for everyone, but one cannot give in to emotions… we’ll have to draw lessons from the current crisis and now we’ll have to work on overcoming it.” Boris Yeltsin
House Keeping:
We will start off with some housekeeping. After every show my friends call to give me their feedback and make recommendations. After much discussion, we decided that Harris at Large on Sunday will be kept simple for a duration of 15 minutes, featuring current events – what is happening in our world. As the subscribers to the show increase, their ideas will be brought on board and their contributions accommodated. After all this is OUR SHOW. But I am thinking expansion and I am hoping we can go on Zoom once a month for a discussion.
The State of the Pandemic:
Saint Lucia – Simply Beautiful and Blessed, remains COVID 19 FREE! Our Chief Medical Officer and her team need to be congratulated on the wonderful job they are doing, ably assisted by our Cuban friends.
God is truly blessing us and we should all be grateful. This week we are back in Church in limited numbers but still thankful. The prayer warriors will not let us down. However, we must continue to follow the simple established protocols. Wash your hands, use masks and maintain Social Distancing. Stay away from crowded places, limit your conversation with other persons.
Current Events:
Diaspora:
This past week has not been good for many of us when we consider what is happening in the world around us. We cannot live unto ourselves. We live in a world of INTERPENDENCE and the Diaspora of the region is substantial. We are very dependent upon our family and relatives to assist us to survive in these challenging times.
Personal Level:
At a personal level, I lost one of my best friends last week. Mr. Priestly Louison, was a prominent businessman in our nation. The family operates the La Place Salizon Outlets. I was a pleasure knowing Priestley. He was taken from us too soon. However, God knows best. May his soul rest in perfect peace!
Beyond St. Lucia:
Suriname:
Looking beyond St. Lucia, the politics in our region has changed. It is going down a road that necessitates urgent rerouting. Suriname is without a declared winner after 6 days. President Desi Bouterse demanded a recount.
Guyana:
In neighbouring Guyana, since the 2nd March, 2020, the Guyana elections Commission (GECOM) after 89 days, is yet to declare a winner and swear in the President. This is not the way to make their nationals proud. In the Guyana situation, we are promised that the recount will be finished by June 13, 2020 and the President will be sworn in – within three days.
St. Kitts-Nevis
Our OECS sister State St. Kitts – Nevis has announced June 5th, 2020 as their election date. On the last occasion, I was there when Hon. Timothy Harris’ party won the last elections. I will be looking on this time from a distance.
USA:
As I mentioned earlier, like our tourism, our people are also dependent on a great economy in the USA. I continue to see the lines in front of the Money Transfer Agencies but that source is not guaranteed for much longer if livelihoods are continued to be threatened with job losses.
As if The COVID 19 Virus was not causing enough havoc to our lives, we are suddenly hit by the Racial Virus in the USA with the outright killing of a black brother George Floyd which has led to extensive unrest across the nation. What can we do? Our loved ones will be scared to walk the Streets. I wonder how developed is developed when I see the simple challenges that become monsters. Life goes on, so what is next?
The only good news out of the USA at the end of the week was the launch of the Space X Capsule, a project promoted by billionaire – Elon Musk in collaboration with NASA. Let us pray for the successful outcome of this initiative as the USA should not be dependent on Russia to take USA Astronauts and cargo to their space ship.
This is an election year in the USA as well. There is still time before the orchestra strikes up. It is going to be HOT, HOT, HOT!
Saint Lucia:
Enough of what is happening outside of St. Lucia, it is time I mind my own business. At home the Government has extended the Curfew until September 30, 2020 and is moving ahead with infrastructural construction works. There is no good news from Liat. Flights will be grounded for another month, until June 30th. This means that it be another month before we can begin to travel to do business and see our friends and relatives in the region. Hopefully, there will be some continued improvement in the management of the virus by our neighbours and airports will begin to open up.
Two weeks ago, I suggested a new tagline for our beloved country. I came up with Saint Lucia – Simply Beautiful & Blessed! We need to continue our discipleship with our soon coming King. In all our ways, let us acknowledge him.
Conclusion:
I posted the notes for Show #4 on my archive www.stluciasimplybeautiful.com and will be doing so for all future shows. Show number 5 is already posted.
This too shall pass, although we know not when.
Let us continue to pray for and with each other, and may you have a week filled with Miracles! Remember always – To keep the Faith, and recognise that God is in charge!
See you next week – Stay Safe!
I look forward to hearing from you.
