LET THE VISION BE ACTUALISED!

The flow of misinformation keeps coming with no end in sight. We are currently experiencing a state of moral decline with persons refusing to accept recommendations from their legitimate leaders, and hold on to things that are fuelled by misinformation. It is amazing how people can buy into lies and hold fast to what is being falsely promoted. An interesting development is that this disruptive and evil sharing of information is not limited to the uneducated. It is shocking to note how many intelligent people who should be promoting positive messages are caught up in peddling of outright disinformation. It is time that we save some people from themselves and institute laws that will make it a criminal offence for acts of disinformation that will put their fellow citizens at risk.
In recent years, where there was prosperity, we now hear about bankruptcy and debt. There is not much good news coming out of many Capitals of the world. The disrupters of the world are at work, some covertly, but in these days men are emboldened to speak up and they are showing their true colours overtly. This is the age of defiance. It is also an age when persons don’t care about morals. Telling untruths has become the norm. This is truly the era of itching ears, when persons are more ready to align themselves with agents of misinformation or downright disinformation. Confusion is rife in this era. There are many who fail to apply reasoning in their everyday lives, and disregard exercising their ability to discern right from wrong. When these situations are being manifested, there will be increased lawlessness, including homicides and burglaries.
All the disruptive behaviours that are being exhibited in our midst did not happen overnight. Too many persons in positions of influence have turned a blind eye over time, and year after year things have deteriorated. It is time to stop talking, and institute timelines to execute the many recommendations that are collecting dust on storage shelves in offices. Everyone has an idea as to what has to be done. Let us bring pressure to bear on the government of the day to just do what has to be done. The time for implementation is now. It is said that new broom sweeps clean. Have you ever given thought to why the 1st 100 days are so important to a new USA administration?
The time has come for TRANSPARENCY and ACCOUNTABILITY. To me, these two words mean – Tell the people what you are doing, and provide regular updates until final implementation.  Communication is key.
The government has established four pillars for setting the country on a manageable path. These are: 1. Putting People First, 2. Inclusiveness, 3. Transparency, 4. Accountability. At this juncture, the stage is set for the current administration to implement legislative reforms with penalties for politicians who fail to carry out their functions in conformity with the law. St. Lucia can be a model state within the region for its approach to governance if the pillars aforementioned are effectively implemented and executed.
In spite of all the crazy things happening in our world, with every passing day, we see things that we thought were impossible to happen in our lifetime. However, there is still hope. Every corner of the globe has been affected by COVID 19 which can be seen as the great equaliser. As I look around and take note of the exciting possibilities that are before our very eyes but so few are noticing them, this moment presents fantastic opportunities to build back better.
It is time for the visionaries of our nation to get to work to establish good governance so that we can rise from the confusion that exists in our world today. Don’t stop asking questions. It can be done, let’s do it!
Let us make every effort to stay safe, adhere to the protocols and pray for deliverance from the COVID 19 pandemic so that in the end, it will be well with us. Keep the faith. Yahweh is in charge!
