IT IS TIME TO CARE AND SHARE!Â
I am so happy to share with my readers some of my thoughts on the festive season. This is the loveliest time of the year when people of goodwill everywhere in a meaningful way express their best wishes to family, friends and associates for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
The world has changed so much in the past year. It has been a turbulent year financially and politically for the entire world. Yet in the leading nation there is no hope. The USA is neither coming nor going. It is gridlock after gridlock. Politicians prefer to ensure that President Obama only serve one term even if it means that there is no country left come November 2012. However, the polls are looking better for the President while the GOP is struggling to make up its mind on a presidential candidate party.Â
The USA is no example to the world as things are today. The politicians must do better. The USA is supposed to be the leading nation in the world even though it is being aggressively challenged by the People’s Republic of China. There is a feeling of restlessness everywhere. Just maybe, the spirit of the festive season will kindle a light of revival around the world. There must be a better way.Â
What the world need now is leaders who will put the interest of the people first. Firstly, there is need to energise the people that are almost hopeless. There is no hope if things are to remain the way they are today. Radical changes must be made to how things are being done. There is need for short cuts to get to a point of minimum satisfaction where the people can be proud of their leaders and rally behind them. Massive and immediate action has to be taken. The best minds should be put to work. Saint Lucia needs doers, not talkers, creative leaders who will get the job done.Â
Politicians have a new role to play in today’s society. The influence of religious and social groups has waned in recent years. Our people have become dependent upon the politicians almost for everything. As a result, politicians will have to get closer to the people, not only at election time but throughout the five year term. Let me give some examples of reasonable expectations.
- Attend church services and participate in programmes of the church. Religious knowledge should be encouraged in schools. Preachers should be given access to undertake programmes in schools.
- Embrace Entrepreneurs in the country and support all private sector associations. Hold meetings with business persons at the constituency level.
- Seek out opportunities to assist in the constituencies.
- 4.  Do an audit of the things that need to be done in the constituencies. Regarding the issue of roads, don’t wait to resurface a road, grade the road so that vehicles and pedestrians can get easier access.
- Dialogue with the young people and get to understand them better.
There is a lot to be done to transform this country to make its citizens proud to be Saint Lucians once again.Â
There is no better time to think about the poor in our midst. The poor is always with us but there must be a continuous effort to make their lives better. At this time of year, it is a time for caring and sharing. I hear Carols and Christmas songs and I get a good feeling – a state of abundance. Christians everywhere can claim their portion of abundance. Jesus came that his people may have life and have it more abundantly. It is on reflection and looking ahead that you can live your best life now. In closing, I wish above all things that health and prosperity will be yours always! Happy Holidays!Â
