THE RODNEY BAY TOURISM OFFER IS GREATLY ENHANCED
WITH THE PRESENCE OF COCO RESORTS
Mr. Allen Chastanet, former Director of Tourism in St. Lucia and until entering the tourism sector as an investor, was Vice President of Marketing for Air Jamaica. He is currently the President of the St. Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association, a position which he assumed on December 6, 2005 as a result of the resignation of the then President in the middle of his two year tenure. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Caribbean Hotel Association. Mr. Chastanet is no stranger to the tourism industry and given his passion for the industry, he is the right man, in the right positions, in the right place, at the right time.
Expansion of the Rodney Bay tourist product is currently being driven by Mr. Allen Chastanet, a man of action. With his acquisition of the 20 room Candyo Inn in October, 2003 which was refurbished and renamed Coco Kreole, he followed within two years with the spanking new 84 room Coco Palm which opened its doors in September, 2005, and there are more expansion projects in the making. The twin properties are being operated under the brand – Coco Resorts with the theme “Escape the Ordinary†and are located in the heart of the culinary centre of St. Lucia – the Rodney Bay Village.
Coco Palm is St. Lucia’s newest four star boutique hotel in Rodney Bay. A French Caribbean style is expressed throughout the property which offers all the modern day amenities discriminating guests have come to expect while maintaining a true Caribbean flavour.
Coco Kreole is a home away from home with single/double rooms. Its French Colonial design with no room numbers, instead room names that are either places or things in St. Lucia written in Kreole are displayed on the entrance doors of the rooms.
Over the past two years the Rodney Bay tourist offering has been greatly expanded with numerous new bars and restaurants, with Coco Palm adding a product with a difference. While the properties cater to the savvy traveler and more importantly to people who want to develop an intimate appreciation for the island’s culture, with its stand alone restaurant and conference centre, the twin properties will serve many tourists whether they visit for St. Lucia Jazz 2006 or Cricket World Cup 2007, Coco Resorts will be the place to hang out whether you stay at their properties or elsewhere. Just to sit at the Bar and look over the sprawling landscape is an experience.

Since the return of Air Jamaica on February 23, 2006, the response to the service out of New York has been overwhelming, and whereas at the moment there are three direct flights per week, the call has gone out for daily direct flights. The operators of small hotels and guest houses are very appreciative of the service as the NY area is a source from which the Diaspora market is best served. Small properties like Coco Resorts should be major beneficiaries as the service is increased to where it was when it was withdrawn.
Be sure to make your hotel reservations early for St. Lucia Jazz, May 5-14, 2006. Get details of the programme at www.stluciajazz.org and St. Lucia Carnival, July 17-18, 2006, details at www.stlucia.org
