SLISBA ENDORSES CIE’s STIMULUS PACKAGE!!!
The Directors of the St. Lucia Industrial & Small Business Association (SLISBA) should be congratulated for giving the go ahead to President Hilton Jn Baptiste to endorse the initiative by the management of Construction and Industrial Equipment (CIE). Mr. Rayneau Gajadhar, Managing Director of Construction and Industrial Equipment (CIE) unveiled a Stimulus Package for the construction industry on Sunday, February 8, 2009 on Radio Caribbean International (RCI). In reality he challenged the business community to be creative and come up with packages that will keep businesses open and employees on the job.
This is not the time for business as usual; it is a time for business unusual. While Mr. Gajadhar did not give details of the plan, the initiative is worthy of note. It is timely and it is my sincere hope that other service providers and distributors in the construction sector will get on board. This initiative by the management of CIE should be shared with the rest of the world. It is not a sale; it is a business initiative that will keep the engine of industry working.
Mr. Gajadhar noted that he wants businesses to be kept open so that when the global economy improves, St. Lucia will be ready. I admire his approach that rather than seeking a bail out, he is seeking to make it possible for citizens to continue with their lives and fulfill their dreams even in these difficult times. The programme is for persons seeking to effect repairs, extensions or building new structures costing from $50,000.00 to 350,000.00. CIE will provide stones, sand, ready mix concrete, heavy duty equipment, transportation at substantial discounts to assist persons in making up their minds to embark on construction related projects. I cannot see other manufactures and distributors not getting involved. This seems like a natural thing to do for businesses and the nation as a whole. The collaboration of other businesses and the banks is paramount for the success of this initiative.
CASH IS KING! Did you ever think of getting bargains at this time? If you haven’t given it a thought, you should. Cash is King when there is a downturn in the economy. This is the time to buy from stocks to galvanized steel roofing sheets. Don’t be afraid to ask for discounts. You don’t even have to ask the price, you can call the price. Interesting times are ahead. If all goes well, you should be able to build a house cheaper today than 3 years ago.
The St. Lucia Chamber of Commerce exposed Entrepreneurs to the Franchise business opportunity on Tuesday 10th February, 2009. Franchise is not new to St. Lucia as we witness the success of KFC, Domino’s Pizza, Subway, RE/MAX, etc. It is time to investigate other opportunities. Franchise offers a proven business method and you are most likely to succeed. However caution must be exercised in the selection of a Franchise. Not because it is successful in the USA, it will succeed here. It is interesting to note that on the said day that Entrepreneurs were learning about Franchise opportunities, I was closing a deal on a franchise. While it cannot be overemphasized that we are living in serious economic times filled with uncertainties and anxieties, many will have their best year yet in 2009.
Necessity is very likely to bring people of like minds together. Business persons who have until now not felt the need to come together and share ideas will be challenged to do so. Support your private sector Associations and get involved in their programmes. I am pleased to share an invitation with my readers to attend the launch of the Brainstorming Mastermind Group http://www.brainstorminggroup.webs.com on February 18, 2009. Register at Email: eahmastermindgroup@gmail.com The group when established will bring about an atmosphere among business persons and professionals that will engender trust in sharing ideas and experiences.
Here is my selected motivational piece for the week:
WHO’S TO BE MASTER OF YOUR LIFE?
Sometimes if you want to see a change for the better,
you have to take things into your own hands.
Once you decide to be at the level of choice,
you take responsibility for your life and gain control of it.
If you don’t run your own life, someone else will.
You’re in control of your life
to the degree that you make the decisions.
If you let others make decisions for you,
you have no control.
When you control the decisions,
you control the actions.
Take charge of your life.
You don’t have to ask permission of other people.
Don’t give someone veto power over your life.
If not you, then who?
If not now, then when?
