EDWARD HARRIS AT LARGE!
A WEEKEND OF ENLIGHTENMENT WITH SHRI SWAMI BRAHMVAIRAAGY!
The Sanatan Hindu Organisation (St. Lucia) Inc. in association with the National Council of Indian Culture of Trinidad and Tobago and Shri Swami Brahmvairaagy of Kashi, India hosted a three day Ramayana Yagna and Religious Chanting on March 6, 7 & 8 in the compound of S & K Manufacturing which is owned and managed by Mr. Shamsundar Jarbandon and his family.
The Sanatan Hindu Organisation membership is drawn from the Guyanese Indian Community but on the weekend Indian Nationals from the mother land and Hindus around the region fellowshipped together. Mr. Ronald Ramjattan of Baron Foods Ltd. is the President of the local organisation. The Honourary Counsel for Guyana to St. Lucia, Mr. Lokesh Singh was in attendance.
Swami challenged his audience to build a Temple as soon as possible so that the community as a whole could worship in a designated building. I am confident that this building will be up within the next eighteen months. It takes a driver to make things happen. The leadership of citizens in all areas of life is necessary. I was fortunate to be a part of the non Hindu audience. I attended two of the three days activity and I took away from that exposure a number of teachings that I feel that I am a part of the culture.
I have first hand knowledge of some basic principles of Hinduism as I attended Hindu College at Cove & John on the East Coast of Demerara in Guyana. The college was administered by a Swami who also hailed from India and I happened to be one of his favourite students. I could not have missed the opportunity to receive blessings from Swami last weekend and share some of my anxieties with him. I felt the power of his influence on my life almost immediately. A Swami is a highly spiritual person and do influence the lives of devotees for the better. I asked a question which I will share the answer with you. Can a non Hindu become a Hindu? The answer is NO. You have to be born a Hindu. Swami said he does not approve of conversion but a growing number of persons around the world are followers of the religion. When the temple is fully established I can envisage that a number of St. Lucians will become followers of this great culture.
I believe in proving all things and following those things that will promote my human and spiritual development. Swamiji’s mission is to elevate the consciousness of man on the planet from human consciousness to divine consciousness. In the past ten years Swamiji has placed special emphasis on propagation of Hinduism and humanism in the entire Caribbean, now it is St. Lucia’s turn. I am convinced that man needs to find inner peace during these difficult times. “This too shall pass†will have greater meaning as you release control and hand your problems over to a higher being. Swami’s intervention couldn’t come at a better time.
The citizens of St. Lucia are eagerly awaiting Budget 2009/2010 which is scheduled to be tabled in the house within the next six weeks. A stimulus package is very much on the cards. Cash Flow assistance to MSMEs should be very much a part of the Budget allocations. While we do not have the financial ability of the USA it might be a good idea to have a look at the items under the stimulus plan. There is going to be a lot of debate on the budget this year as everyone looks forward to sharing a piece of the stimulus pie.
It will be fair to say that apart from the hotel sector, St. Lucia is holding its own. My prediction is that August 2009 will be the month that future direction of the economy could be projected.
Keep the Faith, God is in Charge, Dream Big and Expect Miracles Everyday!!!
