ENTREPRENEURS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!Â
It was the Chamber’s Business Awards, then last Monday evening, it was Caribbean Youth Fest Ltd. (CYF) – Youth Fest 2010 Prize Giving and Thank You Ceremony at the Bay Gardens Conference Centre, Rodney Bay. It was a well planned and executed function. The Feature Address was delivered by Mr. Adrian Augier, Managing Director of Landmark Events Inc. who emphasized the link between corporate sponsorship and building a wholesome society.Â
The promoters of Youth Fest now in its seventh year have established beyond reasonable doubt their commitment to the young people of Saint Lucia and the soundness of their business model. The uniqueness of this incredible display of confidence in our young people is not only noticeable in the painstaking elimination process of the under 12, Teens 13 – 19 and 20 – 29 categories but also in placing them alongside accomplished local and international talents. In the end, the results have demonstrated time after time that Saint Lucia has talented young people. Another aspect of the promotion is how the organisers handle the various aspects of the project so professionally, bringing together artistes, contestants, sponsors, service providers, etc.Â
Those companies which provided sponsorships over the years, especially those that have been from the inception like The Windward Islands (WINERA) Packaging Co. Ltd. and as a result are the catalysts for attracting other sponsors over the years, should be proud of their involvement. It is not only about contracting local and international artistes, but also prizes for the winners and donations to organizations like CARE and in the most recent case to the NCF for Hurricane Tomas Relief. Hats off to the principal promoter Mr. Omar Davis former General Manager of WINERA who has turned the annual event into a movement for emancipating the young from failure and giving them hope that they can succeed if they believe in themselves.Â
What’s next for Caribbean Youth Fest? Too often we are satisfied with the success achieved on the home front and failing to capture the opportunities outside of our immediate space. Caribbean Youth Fest has grown into an institution and in my view, it is ready to be a Franchise with an active relationship/presence in every CARICOM Member State. The success of this project must not be taken lightly. Dr Basil Springer is always on the lookout for projects with the DNA of an Elephant. Caribbean Youth Fest is definitely one such project.Â
Caribbean Youth Fest does for sponsoring companies what will be difficult if not too expensive for them to do for themselves. CYF presents a package that combines Corporate Social Responsibility, Public Relations and more. It gives participating companies the type of visibility that sets them apart from the competition. CYF reaches the youth and shows them a better way. The songs they sing soothe their hearts and the hearts of their peers. This is sure one effective means of reaching the youth of our beautiful island. Congratulations to all those persons/companies who have cooperated with the promoters in one way or another.Â
I have been pointing to the business of writing “How To E-books†for some time now and I am pleased to report that I launched my first publication this week. The Title is – “Introduction to Investing in Real Estate in St. Luciaâ€. It targets Foreign Direct Investment/Investors seeking to invest in St. Lucia. I will provide the link on my social network at www.facebook.com/eaharrisdestiny and www.twitter.com/saintlucian . I am still hopeful that a group of professionals will join with me in producing an Anthology on the Real Estate Industry in Saint Lucia.Â
The battle cannot be won by one soldier against an army and it is for this reason I continue to extend an invitation to persons of like minds to join me and bring some ideas to the table, so that the collective efforts of those who understand that no real progress in many areas of today’s businesses can be achieved by one person. Let us unite and be big winners. Here is a starting point, get involve by joining the Millionaires Club at www.groups.yahoo.com/group/globalmillionairesclub .Â
Entrepreneurs can make a difference. Entrepreneurs are leaders of Industry and of necessity are creative people. It is time that the creativity that brings success in business be extended to other areas of social and cultural endeavours which need drivers. Share your success with your community.Â
Remember always to Keep the Faith, God is in Charge, Dream Big and expect Daily Miracles!Â
