“I used to be scared of uncertainty; now I get a high out of it.” Jensen Ackles.

The path to the future has never been more blurred than today. The year commenced with the availability of vaccines to deal with the spread of the COVID 19 pandemic. However, there is no clear indication as to how COVID 19 and the new found variants will react to the current vaccines going forward. Already there is talk about boosters, with no exact indication of what form it will take.

St. Lucia is continuing to keep its death rate reasonably under control. In recent weeks older folks seem to be in the majority of cases due to underlying health issues. While COVID 19 restrictions continue in place, it remains the duty of all St. Lucians, and visitors to our shores to adhere to the protocols of washing hands, wearing masks, and social distancing. It is important that everyone contributes to observing the protocols that will make it possible to reduce instances of the spread of COVID 19.

Moving away from the issues of COVID 19, it is necessary to turn to the economy. However, it is unfortunate that every time the USA seems to be making some form of progress in the reduction of deaths and hospitalisation related to COVID 19, some Governors rush to open up their states without any concern of possible reversal of their gains. The advancement of our tourism sector is vital to the survival of our economy and should be seriously guarded to ensure that the protocols are maintained. It is interesting to note that under President Biden’s administration, everything is being done to bring relief to the citizens of the USA. The passage of the 1.9 trillion COVID 19 Economic Relief   Bill sets the stage for further progress in advancing the health of the citizens, and the economy of the USA in general.

It is evident that when the citizens of the USA are satisfied with the efforts of their government, the world benefits from increased travel, American investments abroad, and remittances to family and friends. Let us pray that the new guidelines recommended by the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) will be helpful in bringing the pandemic under some measure of control. There are lots of expectations beyond summer 2021, when it is hoped that by that time, businesses will be back, and schools fully reopened.

Many jobs will not come back on the market, and many companies will take on new methods of operation. Working from home will continue and freelancing will grow substantially. Employers and employees will continue to find new ways of adapting to the new normal. Many employees will transition to their own businesses, and home-based businesses are likely to see massive expansion.

It is a well known fact that out of disasters come opportunities. COVID 19 is a wake-up call for many persons who have been unwilling to advance themselves with professional studies, and new skills so as to afford them some degree of upward mobility. Going forward, the challenge is for persons to do better with their lives. It is time to stop settling anything, and design a future with the type of advancement that will be life-changing.

Internet Communication Technology has presented a platform for any ambitious person to succeed. Online learning is the way to go. Study from home and achieve your goals. Your challenge must be to turn the inconvenience and loss that COVID 19 has caused into astounding successes.

The world is watching the progress that the USA is making under the leadership of President Biden and his team, as the USA re-establishes itself as a truly democratic nation, providing a model of democracy for the world to follow.

No one knows for sure what the future holds. The future is filled with Uncertainty and Anxiety. With the help of God, we shall overcome!

Stay safe. Remember Always, Yahweh is in charge; dream big and expect daily Miracles!
