IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO!
It is the right thing to do. This is a statement which challenges many persons on a daily basis. Unfortunately, many have had to take a contrary route for expediency. Will my decision fit into what is popular? I am really happy for the six years I was privileged to be a member of Rotary. The four way test really reinforced my belief. This is a test that has proven difficult for many to adhere to. Over the years during and after my Rotary involvement, I hold fast to those principles. It was not difficult for me as it only reinforced the belief that was instilled in me from my childhood.
President Obama in his last election campaign used the phrase – Yes We Can, this election he is striking at the consciences of the electorate – It is the right thing to do. Whether dealing with the issue of Gay rights or Illegal Immigrants. It is very important for your conscience to be alert and responsive to the witness of the Holy Spirit. Some people act so heartless that it is sometimes remarked that cock roach ate out their conscience.
In the next quarter, the conscience of St. Lucians will speak loud and clear as the Government and people grapple with the challenge of putting the economy on the right footing. The Labour Code comes first in August and Value Added Tax in September. These actions are right for the benefit of all; better employer and employee relationship and effective tax for all to contribute fairly.
The two pieces of legislation will neceesitate the working together of members of the private sector, government, labour  and civil society as a whole. The various sub sectors within the private sector need to share information – especially on stock levels, so as to ensure that current stocks are sold off and a minimum level of goods be available at the time of implementation of VAT. The timeliness of actions will be of essence as VAT is implemented. It is very likely that the storage at Port Castries will be challenged as never before during this period. We have all heard about Just In Time shipments but it never worked in this part of the world. If it can happen, it will, and in most cases it happens in this part of the world. But the big winners this time will be those who manage the Just In Time process well. That is definitely the right thing to do.
There are so many things that seem just right to do. Unfortunately, because of selfish reasons, everyone is preoccupied with their own survival, failing to recognize that it will be better for all if the thought process could be changed to thinking about others. Use your ability to make life easy for others and you will be amazed how easy life will be for you and those who rely upon you. If you clear a path, it is not only you will walk through but others who need access to their destination as well. Savour in the feeling of achievement. If you can help others, then your life will not be in vain. Just touch lives. It is the right thing to do.
Always endeavour to be a blessing to others. Leaders should always strive to be servants of the people, doing everything possible to make their lives more fulfilling.
With every step you take, try to do what is right because it is the right thing to do.
Here is my motivational piece of the week:
ALWAYS THINK IN TERMS OF WHAT THE OTHER PERSON WANTS
Personal relationships are the fertile soil from which all advancement, all success, all achievement in real life grows.
Your success depends on the support of other people. You can get anything you want in life if you’re willing to help enough other people get what they want.
The only hurdle between you and what you want to be is the support of others.
You cannot hold a torch to light another’s path without brightening your own.
