THE BUDGET IS EXPECTED TO LAUNCH
SAINT LUCIA’S STIMULUS PACKAGE!
It is very easy to conclude that the 2009/2010 Budget will be a Stimulus Budget which will hopefully put money into the economy and get employees back to work so that consumer spending could be increased. Business persons are almost silent on their expectations of the budget. However, there are statements that suggest loss of business in all areas of commerce. While there is little change in consumer behaviour, it is definitely not business as usual. Everyone is hurting.
It was interesting that earlier this week I received two books recently published by a friend who happens to be the author. The titles are “Learn How to Get Rich – And do good for others†and “Dollars & Sense – A common Sense Guide to Managing Your Moneyâ€. This is a timely gift and I got down to reading Learn how to get rich first. I guess everyone will like to get rich and live abundantly. I am always optimistic even in the worst circumstance. Maybe it’s because I am old enough to recognize that nothing lasts forever and when it comes to the economy, confidence will make the difference. It is necessary for the feel good spirit to reign supreme. It is all about consciously believing that the financial uncertainties could be reversed.
This is one time that the people will have to rely on the goodness of the politicians and public servants who are supposed to have the best interest of the people at heart. It is possible for leaders to do what is right in the interest of the people. Fortunately, it has finally been proven that politicians can be relied upon to deliver on campaign promises. We have an example to follow. President Obama has set the standard in political leadership. He continues to deliver on his campaign promises in spite of the detractors and even members of his own party who are bent on doing business the old fashioned way. Persons who are fair minded are giving President Obama the credit he deserves. I am so happy that he will be visiting our region and our leaders will get the opportunity to touch him as I am convinced that many of them are like Jesse Jackson who couldn’t contain himself and unleashed ridicule on the President during the election campaign; then cried later. Our leaders should be followers of President Obama. He should be emulated.
We are living in difficult but exciting times. It is for us to make the difference but it will take our positive collective action. There are many who are sitting on the fence and are waiting for things to change without any effort on their part. This is the time to be engaged in taking action that will bring about change for the better. There is hope. The stock market responded to the G20 Summit and no major decline has been recorded since the initial gains. Job lay offs are declining, companies are hiring. Picture St. Lucia in the same light. Do you see changes for the better? There is every reason for you to be optimistic. Yes we can!
I am not privy to what will appear in the final budget but I have been involved in several meetings and discussions to conclude that adequate representation has been made by private sector leaders and other stake holders. This budget is a test of the willingness of
Politicians and Administrators to act upon the recommendations of the Representatives of the various stake holders on whose behalf they contributed to the consultations.
Real Estate Agents are invited to a Lecture on “Real Estate Franchising in the USA and the benefits of a Franchise to St. Lucians Realtors†scheduled for Glencastle Hotel, Cas en Bas, Gros Islet on Saturday 18th April, 2009 at 6.00 pm. The lecture will be delivered by Mr. Carl Fleischer, President of America’s Realty of Atlanta, Georgia and is sponsored by America’s Realty (Saint Lucia).
SLISBA will hold its 1st General Membership Meeting for 2009 on Sunday, 19th April at the Palm Haven Hotel, Rodney Bay, Gros Islet at 3.00 pm. Officials from the St. Lucia Development Bank and the VAT Implementation Project will address the membership.
The following week 27&28/4/09, SLISBA will host a 2 day workshop on LEAN Leadership at the Glencastle Hotel, Cas en Bas. This workshop offers two days of intensive training with a follow up on site visit by the Facilitator 30 days after the workshop to assess the level of implementation achieved in participants’ companies.
Here is my selected motivational piece of the week:
MAKE YOUR DREAMS A REALITY
You have the power and the opportunity to change your life.
You can make anything you want of it.
It’s not difficult, it just takes some effort.
See things as you would have them be instead of as they are.
Develop a personal plan that focuses on what you want,
not on what you have.
Your imagination will show you how to turn possibility into reality.
Visualize your goals and your subconscious will work
toward making those mental picture come true.
When you picture yourself as vividly winning,
that alone will contribute immeasurably to your success.
Knowing your destination is all you need to get there.

It is easy to see the problems as simply challenges that can be confronted and dealt with. Let us get to work to make conditions better for all. The Budget is just days away.
Keep the Faith; remember always God is in Charge, Dream Big and Expect Daily
Miracles!!!
