ONE STOP SHOP

Wednesday, August 1st, 2012

The private sector’s role is to do business; the Government’s role is to provide regulatory and service functions, which include legislation, incentives and appropriate development finance in support of a user friendly enabling environment with macro-economic benefits as the expected return; the trade unions should focus on enhancing productivity through a sound relationship between employer and employee for fair compensation; and all other members of the national team should contribute to supporting the initiatives of the primary players.

PEACE THROUGH SERVICE

Monday, July 30th, 2012

I pointed out that start-up businesses may often have the potential to contribute to the growth of the economy. They are seldom able to attract funding from the traditional sources because of their high risk. Hence the importance of a “benevolent” Venture Capital fund. I also mentioned that globally, start-ups fail at the rate of 90% in the first five years of operation and that this may be alleviated by the introduction of the shepherding process which mitigates the risk of business failure. In other words I made the case for the adoption of the CBET Shepherding Modelâ„¢ as a means of supporting start-up enterprises. Indeed, all things can be done for those who believe.

IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO!

Sunday, July 22nd, 2012

There are so many things that seem just right to do. Unfortunately, because of selfish reasons, everyone is preoccupied with their own survival, failing to recognize that it will be better for all if the thought process could be changed to thinking about others. Use your ability to make life easy for others and you will be amazed how easy life will be for you and those who rely upon you. If you clear a path, it is not only you will walk through but others who need access to their destination as well. Savour in the feeling of achievement. If you can help others, then your life will not be in vain. Just touch lives. It is the right thing to do.

AGRICULTURE: BLACK SHEEP OF THE FAMILY?

Sunday, July 22nd, 2012

The systems of a business include Corporate Governance, Marketing, Production, People and Investment Finance. The Corporate Governance and the Investment Finance models, in particular, have been weak in the context of the agricultural sector in Barbados. The Corporate Governance must be built around a public/private Agricultural Trading System and an innovative investment finance instrument.

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

The Trust was established in 1989 in memory of two great Barbadians, Errol and Nita Barrow. Given their passionate belief in education as a tool of empowering all, the primary purpose of the Trust is to raise funds and make financial awards that will enable Barbadians and Commonwealth Caribbean citizens to pursue a course of study that will further the development of Barbados and the Caribbean.

GENEROSITY AND ENTREPREN

Wednesday, July 11th, 2012

It is amazing the level of ignorance which is displayed by budding entrepreneurs who have good ideas but no knowledge of business management and no access to money.

WINERA HAS SERVED A GENERATION

There are lots of interesting things happening in the South, be a part of the action. Don’t wait for it to happen, be a part of making it happen. “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.” JFK.

IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO!

Monday, June 25th, 2012

June 19, 2012  Harris At Large! IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO! It is the right thing to do. This is a statement which challenges many persons on a daily basis. Unfortunately, many have had to take a contrary route for expediency. Will my decision fit into what is popular? I am really happy […]

MAKE MONEY WHILE YOU SLEEP

Monday, June 25th, 2012

Cultural maturity can best be exemplified by a statement by Singapore’s founding father, Lee Kwan Yew, who said that the ultramodern city-state he built is every bit a First World nation but the state should not rest on its laurels until there are clean public toilets (this expresses care for your fellow man) and arts, including music, in all schools (this reveals an appreciation of the finer things in life).
