WITHER THE SUGAR CANE INDUSTRY AND AGRICULTURE

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

I constantly refer, in this column, to the five functions of management: corporate governance; innovative marketing; operations; personnel; and financial investment. If we examine these functions against the sugarcane industry, we can immediately see that there is a gap between the potential for each function and the status quo.

AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO BUSINESS GAP ANALYSIS

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

The theory of Management of Business states that business is driven by the five functions: corporate governance, marketing, operations, leading and control; and that the elements of management (planning, organising, staffing, leading and monitoring), if well applied, mitigate the risk of business failure.

LET US CHANGE TODAY

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

When I approached Chief Justice Gibson to greet him on the evening, I was absolutely honoured when he immediately referred to my weekly column and confirmed that he actually reads it. He immediately made reference to his exposure to spirituality and jurisprudence during his days at Oxford University and revealed his comfort that my column attempts to combine spirituality and business.

Dear Subscribers, My apology for not posting recent articles. Life got a bit hectic in the last few weeks and I must admit I couldn’t cope. I hope you have not been been too put off by the absence. Once again I am very sorry for the inconvenience. Do have a Happy Valentine! We are […]

IT IS TIME FOR A CONTRARIAN SOCIETY IN SAINT LUCIA!

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

I read about the Contrarian Investor who advised that investors should do the opposite to what investment gurus recommend. I agree with that statement and I will like to suggest that you go in the opposite direction of popular beliefs. In business you hear a lot about thinking out of the box. What is really the case is that you are invited to take a different approach. Think and do things differently.

STOP LOCKING OUT THE REST OF THE COUNTRY!

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

The Guyana Saint Lucia Association will be hosting its Southern Chapter meeting in Vieux Fort on Sunday, 29th January at 4.00pm. This will be the first meeting I will be attending in the South since my return and I look forward to attending many others. This meeting was planned by the executive long before my decision to move back to the South – the New Frontier. In the past, every opportunity I got to schedule a meeting for the South, I did everything to make it happen.

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

Good management is highly correlated with the sustained success of the business and includes the elements of planning, organising, staffing, leading and monitoring/controlling. The monitoring/controlling element of management facilitates the exercise of testing the outcome against the objective (forecast) and if the outcome is not consistent with the forecast then corrective action must be taken to bring future outcomes back on track with the forecasts.

HEALTH, HAPPINESS & PROSPERITY!

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

I pray for prosperity to return to our shores and that the spirit of cooperation will pervade in our midst. It is time to put all hands on deck, reject divisiveness and move forward in unity, as united we stand, divided we fall. Let us put country first and all other things will fall into place.

DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT IN 2012!

Sunday, January 22nd, 2012

Predictions for year 2012 are quite scary even the possibility of the end of the world on December 21. However from my vantage point, I see 2012 as the most eventful year in recent history. There is no need to fear. Get out there and secure your share of the pie. There are opportunities all around, right here in St. Lucia. Many successful businesses in the developed countries are yet to be introduced in the region and there are some opportunities for St. Lucian Entrepreneurs to invest overseas.

LET US CHANGE TODAY

“Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world’s going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says. Funny how you can send ‘jokes’ through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace… Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks about us”
