A new day has dawned for America. The two branches of government, although the Democrats have very slim majorities have demonstrated their ability to navigate the process and produce results, as in the case of the 1.9 trillion dollar American Rescue Act. The Filibuster is currently posing some difficulty in the US Senate as President Biden seeks reconciliation wherever possible, although he is not prepared to lose sight of his agenda, especially the promises he made to the electorate.  The next Bill to be presented to the Senate will be the Infrastructure Bill. However, there is an urgency for the legislative branch to act now on Race Relations, Gun Control, and Policing which may see the latter emerging at the top of the agenda in a few days.

There are hundreds if not thousands of stories of Disasters to be told about events around the region as those who were affected, rose from the ruins, and in many instances, started all over again. We need to hear those stories. Enough is not being done to educate our people about disaster survivors. Media houses throughout the region need to get involved in the production of survival stories that normally follow disasters. Storytelling is a vital part of informing and educating our citizens in all aspects of life.

It is time for the Influencers in our midst to take a stand and reach out to their fellow citizens by educating and enlightening them in areas of financial empowerment. I have been doing a lot of reading in the past year on a number of subjects such as Investing, Small Business, Personal Empowerment, and Politics; I am amazed how a few individuals who are willing to share their stories can bring about phenomenal changes in the lives of others.

What’s next? No one can predict the future with any precision. If there is any time that without a doubt as to who is in charge, it is now. The mixed signals due to the posture of men, denying the will of God caused men to shift their allegiance away from God but today God is glorified and more persons are turning to him seeking forgiveness from their sins, and proclaiming the power of salvation. What a privilege it is to serve a risen saviour? Be still and know that God is in charge. The Bible declares that no one cometh to the Father but by the Son.

Even though the mix of resources varies from country to country and in the Diaspora, the one resource to be found in abundance in each country is talent,  in the areas of academia, art, business, culture, innovation, literature, music, problem-solving, public speaking, science, sport, and vision. In the Caribbean, intrinsic creative intellectual genius abounds.
 

If we have HOPE, we have joy and peace, and all the other virtues that make life worth living. I cannot overemphasize the point that we live in chaotic times when nothing seems to be moving towards making the world a better place. It is unfortunate but POLITICIANS are at the centre of the myriad of problems that face the citizens of the world today. What is happening in China, Russia, North Korea, Iran, Israel, Syria, Pakistan, and the USA today? Uncertainty and anxiety are rife. No one knows what to expect next. The political leaders of the developed nations must take responsibility for the state that the peoples of this world find themselves.

Many jobs will not come back on the market, and many companies will take on new methods of operation. Working from home will continue and freelancing will grow substantially. Employers and employees will continue to find new ways of adapting to the new normal. Many employees will transition to their own businesses, and home-based businesses are likely to see massive expansion.

How can CARICOM pivot, using its own resources and talents, and how can we leverage the potential of USVI/CARICOM partnerships to our mutual benefit?  

It is time for a wakeup call encouraging all people of goodwill to return to the former things where caring and sharing were the hallmarks of a loving existence. The incidents of homicide and suicide are much too high and must be reduced substantially. We must lower the temperature. Let us invite God back into our lives and give him a place of pre-eminence in our hearts. The scripture declares that the fear of God is the beginning of all wisdom.
